Aquis Appoints Former Jupiters Managing Director As A Consultant

Gaming and real estate development group Aquis is pleased to announce the appointment of former Jupiters Hotel and Casino Managing Director Aaron Gomes as a Senior Consultant – New Projects.

Mr Gomes was Managing Director of Jupiters from October 2012 to June 2014. He was responsible for all operations of the property, including overseeing more than 2,000 employees and planning for a $400 million capital redevelopment plan.

The appointment further strengthens the Aquis executive team as the company looks to progress its integrated resort project at Yorkeys Knob in Far North Queensland and secure a separate license as part of redevelopment plans for the Sheraton Mirage on the Gold Coast.

Separately, Aquis acquired Casino Canberra in December 2014 and is currently progressing a listing of the facility on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) under the name Aquis Entertainment Group.

Mr Gomes will work with the existing Aquis team including CEO Justin Fung and Aquis Entertainment Group CEO Geoff Andres.

Mr Fung said Mr Gomes would bring a strong understanding of the local and international gaming industries to Aquis.

“Aaron’s experience both here and overseas will be very important as we progress negotiations with the government for the Yorkeys Knob resort,” he said.

“His experience and contacts will also be invaluable when the second licence is re-opened to competition.”

Since leaving Australia Mr Gomes has been working with JNB Gaming on the development of two casinos in the Untied States, including the $425 million Lago Resort and Casino in Upstate

New York and the $70 million Kansas Crossing Casino in Southeastern Kansas. Both Casinos are planned to open in 2016.

Before joining Jupiters Mr Gomes was CEO of Resorts Casino in Atlantic City and also worked extensively as a consultant in then US gaming industry.

Mr Gomes said he was looking forward to working with Aquis to progress their gaming ambitions in Australia.
